Full Head Lifecast

First, I must repeat my DISCLAIMER! Lifecasting is not a technique that should be attempted alone nor should it be attempted by people with no experience. It is potentially dangerous! DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! Seriously!

Well, my pal Darc and I were at it again, but this time, we did my whole head and this time we did it with NO straws! Of course that means you have to be even more careful because breathing will depend entirely on the nostrils not getting blocked while the alginate goes on. It also must be said that we did this in a room full of professional effects artists who were supervising and/or assisting and had experience with the process.

I decided to have the whole head cast done because I wanted to be able to work on not only resculpting my Grinch appliance, but I also want to do the back of the head (see the make-up session on the Grinch DVD special features) and eventually make a wig. For all this, I would need a full head cast. I wanted to do this orginally but it would be too much to do for a first try, so we settled for just doing the face last time. I already knew what was under the wig Jim Carrey was wearing, so I didn't get the idea to do this from the DVD, but the DVD makeup feature was VERY nice to see. It generally confirmed much of what we learned moreso than taught us anything new about the make-up application.

Ultimately, in a project like this, it all starts with having a good lifecast. The overall proceedure was the same as last time so I won't go into detail. Instead I thought I would simply make a gallery so you can view the second lifecast process. Read the paragraphs on the first lifecast page to learn more about the process.
